In The Oregonian or 12 January I found this: If the owners don't claim the dog in the next couple of days, it will become a warden of the Safe Haven Humane Society...

If a dog is a warden of the dog pound (or whatever fancy name they have), does that mean the owner couldn't get it back if he identified it in 7 days, say?

Aren't you overthinking this a bit? The pooch will be a ward of..., as orphans and other children lost in the legal chasm frequently are.
