I haven't read the article yet, but I'm just not as sure as the journalists who've been reporting this story in various papers. One thing to consider is whence PIE came between the time that people speaking its ancestor language left Africa. There seems to be a hard date of 10K years before present for the farthest back we can go in reconstructing languages, although some (the Nostraticists) have tried to take it back further. I've read quite a few of the hypotheses that different linguists and others have come up with, but I remain skeptical so far. We shall see.
They DID seem a bit too sure of themselves, and since anything scientific is open to scrutiny and disproof, they may some day eat sfrawo. Still, interesting possibility in the opinion of this layman.

In the comments to the LL post, I and others discuss this map. It seems weird to me. It shows Indo-European arriving in Iceland before Sweden, which is apparently not true. So what exactly does this map represent, and how reliable is it?
