Do I dare try the Bluffing Game again? My word is "Chitin" - I saw it recently and hadn't heard it before, but I imagine a lot of you have. Please PM me your daffynitions.

You now have mine. I've been so busy trying to find what I did with the limerick that resembled the one Bob posted that I forgot about everything else. I appear to have deleted it, so the search was futile. If I only had a brane...

Uhhh, was chitin part of a Hank Williams song title? "Your Chitin' Heart?"

Sorry, I've been writing postcards every spare minute for the election. Americans, we must stand strong and united and vote this man out! Anyway, I have some good daffys now and I'll post them tomorrow. Thank you!

Here we go with the daffys, and the one real one. Which is the real one? 1. The bony protuberances on the skulls of some reptiles. 2. A species of jellyfish. 3. Hide or hoof-derived glue, also called hide glue. 4. A common organic molecule found in insect and crustacean exoskeletons. 5. A vegetable rich in beta carotene and full of antioxidants and phytochemicals, popular in the South. 6. Billet doux, from Hindi. 7. Hanging chad. 8. Canned panda meat. 9. An artificial substitute that can be used instead of rosin on stringed musical instruments. 10. An Asian herb used mainly in flavoring soups. 11. A city in southeast China near the western end of the border with Korea, about 120 miles northwest of Pyongyang.

Sheesh! these are tough. I think canned panda meat is hilarious & hope I don't have to eat my hat on this: going for #2 "a species of jellyfish."

I had assumed it to be an ancient Greek experimental metal alloy, X (Chi in Greek) + tin. But since that's not among the possibilities, I'll say it's # 4.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Geoff,

Any more guesses? Hab? | |||

I know the correct definition. I vote for #3, glue derived from horses' hooves. Pick one: A. true - true - cause and effect B. true - true - unrelated C. only the first statement is correct D. only the second statement is correct E. neither statement is correct

Sorry for the delay - and the real answer is: #4 Here are the writers of the daffynitions: 1. The bony protuberances on the skulls of some reptiles - Geoff 2. A species of jellyfish - Geoff, and he fooled Bethree 3. Hide or hoof-derived glue, also called hide glue - Geoff, and he fooled Hab 4. A common organic molecule found in insect and crustacean exoskeletons - the real thing (I saw it on a sign in a butterfly garden.) correctly guessed by Geoff and Bob 5. A vegetable rich in beta carotene and full of antioxidants and phytochemicals, popular in the South - My daffynition 6. Billet doux, from Hindi - Bethree 7. Hanging chad - Bethree 8. Canned panda meat - Bob's 9. An artificial substitute that can be used instead of rosin on stringed musical instruments - Bob's 10. An Asian herb used mainly in flavouring soups - Bob's 11. a city in southeast China near the western end of the border with Korea, about 120 miles northwest of Pyongyang - Hab's Geoff, you clearly won this one. You fooled two people and got it right yourself. You're up!

Well, he didn't exactly fool me; I've known of chitin just about forever. It's the principal component of the carapace of beetles, and is related to the keratin that makes up animal hair and nails. I did think that his definition was the best of the daffies, though. Which makes the answer to my poser B; both statements are true, and unrelated.

I too knew the definition, hence poser B

I thought you would know it, Hab. And I should have thought Bob and Geoff would. Oh well...I tried! I liked that I had come across the word, rather than just looking up a really rare word.
