Yes, Bob, it was one of the first French words I learned. Way back when Renault cars were sold in North America I worked for the West Coast distributor, so was exposed to many not-so polite expressions.

As for poutine, a few weeks ago I posted the following on Farcebook: Retraction from a small Quebec newspaper: "Yesterday we referred to the president of Russia as Vladimir Poutine.
