Well. We have been in total lockdown for seven days now which hasn't been too bad for me because the community and campus locked down together so I could teach and use the canteen (even if their love of mushrooms means I can usually only find one dish that I can eat) but all students are being sent home from Monday and the canteen will be closed. As things stand this means I will be stuck here, unpaid and with no way to get food other than the food I have in the apartment already. I was told we MIGHT be allowed out for a couple of hours every two days to buy food. Let's hope that's accurate. I am wondering how many people are dying BECAUSE of lockdown. I suspect it might be more than because of Covid because if you are sick or fall down the stairs there is no easy way to get to see a doctor or get medication. My heart meds which were posted from Xian (about fifty km away) about a week ago still haven't arrived because no packages are being allowed into Weinan from outside. Luckily i know someone here who knows someone who works in a Weinan pharmacy and delivered some to our community gatehouse. I have heard of people dying because of the difficulty. I have also heard that some apartment blocks have had alarms fitted that alert the police if the door is opened. This is a worse situation than when it all started. So, looks as if that zero Covid policy is working well. I'll keep you posted with any developments.
