Dear Wordcrafters, Many of you will remember one of our best Wordcrafters, Arnie (Alan Palmer). He helped us start and populate our board, always with astute, articulate pieces. He was a fellow administrator and helped me to get rid of spammers - and developed a system where we could identify them when they registered and not approve their membership here. He was a star on Wordcraft, and it pains me to tell you that he has died. His sister is a FB friend of Shu's and she told Shu that he had been hospitalized with a "bad chest" for 2 months. Then, in the hospital, he got COVID-19. From what I understand, after that he did not live long. We will mourn his loss on Wordcraft. I am also going to send PMs out about his death, as some of our posters who are no longer here will want to know. I am so sad. I once had a work trip to London and met up with arnie. We had a fabulous time together - Bob joined as well. I won't ever forget the operator calling my hotel room and saying, "There is a Mr. Palmer here to see you." So British. Goodbye, Mr. Palmer. We love you.

This really has been the most terrible year. Alan - who I can only think of as Arnie - was a leading light here with his constant good nature and his great posts. He’s been much missed. This is the saddest news and my thoughts are with his family. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

Alas, it is a loss to us all who knew him, whether only via this board or in person. He had a most amazing memory. One could not fool him on the Bluffing Game! It is also sad to realize that we have lost in death more members of this board than we now have participants. Sic transit gloria mundi

I'm so sorry to hear of Arnie's death. It's like a death in the family. He had such a wide range of knowledge and seemed to know every word ever coined. He will be mourned and sorely missed by all Wordcrafters.

We are a family, aren't we? We are like far-flown cousins, communicating here from our countries. Though I didn't know Arnie, I enjoyed talking with him as a relative newcomer here [came onboard 2007], and so enjoyed his erudite yet straight-on friendly & informative input. I am very glad to have shared that friendship with him through Wordcraft, and extend my condolences to his family, as well as to his long-time friends here.

We are a family, I agree. And arnie was one of the first here. I have been in contact with his sister, and I am going to send her a WC link so she can read some of his posts. He was definitely a loyal Wordcrafter on whom I could depend. As a Wordcraft Administrator, he used to help me approve newbies. I checked on that tonight and we had a bunch, though about 2/3 I had to delete because they were spammers. As I indicated above, arnie helped me to identify the spammers so that we can have peace here on Wordcraft. Bethree, I had no idea you've been here since 2007. I thought you were much newer here than that. You are absolutely one of the "oldies" here. ![]()

time flies when you're having fun, Kalleh! However I will admit my aging memory is flying out that same window. I think I'm pretty close on that guesstimate though.

I check into Wordcraft every now and again, and today I discover that Arnie had passed on. I had met Arnie once, in London, with some of the gang. You will be missed, Arnie. —Ceci n'est pas un seing.

So good to see you, Z. Yes, those were good old times. We are few participating members at this point, but we are strong!

Is there anything we could do for Arnie here? He was an oldtimer who really helped a lot. Any ideas?
