I stumbled across this, for amusement, and suspect there may be many other puzzles of the sort.

There is a word of plural number,
A foe of peace and gente slumber.
Any other word you chance to take,
By adding "S" you plural make.
But if you add an "S" to this,
How strange the metamorphosis
That Plural is plural then no more,
And sweet what bitter was before.

I love the riddle shufitz!

And Wordcrafter, that is a much better way to handle the answer! Thank you! Going through the alphabet was more than just a bit tedious, and the way shufitz typos, it had to be extremely hard for him! wink big grin

I make pictures to view,
I hold forks and knives too,
And when on your form,
I keep your seat warm.
What am I?

Here's a very old one:

Swings by his thigh
A thing most magical!
Below the belt
Beneath the folds
Of his clothes it hangs
A hole in its front end,
Stiff-set and stout
It swivels about.

Levelling the head
Of this hanging tool,
Its wielder hoists his hem
Above his knee;
It is his will to fill
A well-known hole
That it fits fully
When at full length

He's oft filled it before.
Now he fills it again.

Answer: see here.

My tail is like Leo,
My head is like Taurus,
Seen often in bars,
Rich people adore us.
I'm silver or gold,
With an "eye" near my middle,
Guess what I am,
And you'll answer this riddle.

seeking sky
Flowers of fire
flying high
Eastern art
from ancient time
Name me now
and solve this rhyme

The next few are not new (I found them in a poetry anthology published in 1912), so perhaps they will for some reader trigger fond memories. smile

Little Nanny Etticoat,
In a white petticoat,
And a red nose;
The longer she stands,
The shorter she grows.

Old Mother Twitchett had but one eye,
And a long tail which she let fly;
And every time she went over a gap,
She left a bit of her tail in a trap.
