We all love music, and have the lyrics running through our head. I will start with a few lines from a song. The idea is to pull one or two words, or a phrase from that song clip and post another short clip of another song that uses those same words.

In posting lyrics, please ~

~ confine the lyrics to four lines or less
~ boldface the Linking word or phrase
~ identify the title of the song, and
~ identify the composer or first performer of the song

OK. Here we go.

Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.
Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

of course, the song is "Amanda"

Yes guide me
Forever guide me
Will you stay with me and guide me along the way
If I succeed because of you, fate my friend
I'll be so happy

You just call out my name,
and you know where ever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend

Oh, I like this game!

When will I see you again?
When will we share precious moments?
Will I have to wait forever?
Or will I have to suffer and cry the whole night through?

When will I see you again?
When will our hearts beat together?
Are we in love or just friends?
Is this my beginning or is this the end?

Baby, it's you on my mind, your love is so rare.
Being with you is a feeling I just can't compare.
And if I can't hold you in my arms, it just wouldn't be fair.
Cause' Precious and few are the moments we two can share.

I've got you on my mind, I'm feeling kind of sad and low.
Got you on my mind, feeling kind of sad and low.
I'm wondering where you are, wondering why you had to go.

I look at the moon and a single star
It's making me crazy wondering where you are
I reach out and touch that heavenly face
Open my hand and there's empty space

Oh no, where are you tonight (tonight)
Tonight (tonight)
I've got to know where are you tonight baby

Tonight, Tonight, won't be just any night.
Tonight there will be no morning star.
Tonight, Tonight, I'll see my love tonight.
And for us stars will stop where they are.
Today the minutes seem like hours,
The hours go so slowly,
And still the sky is light,
The moon burns bright,
And make this endless day,
endless night,
Tonight, Tonight.

Are the stars out tonight?
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
I Only Have Eyes For You, Dear.

The moon maybe high
but I can't see a thing in the sky,
'Cause I Only Have Eyes For You.

I want you to know
You belong in my life
I love the hope
I see in your eyes
For you
I would fly
At least I would try
For you I'll take
The last flight out

eyes for you...love, hope

It's almost tomorrow, but what can I do
Your kisses all tell me that your love is untrue
I'll love you forever till stars cease to shine
And hope someday darling you'll always be mine

Please lock me away and don't allow the day
Here inside where I hide with my loneliness
I don't care what they say I won't stay in a world without love

Birds sing out of tune and rain clouds hide the moon
I'm OK, here I'll stay with my loneliness
I don't care what they say I won't stay in a world without love

They'll have to lock me away
And I won't last one day

lock me away ... crazy without you

Come on down lightning. / Come on down thunder.
Come on down raindrops. / Don't leave me to wonder.

without you. ...
I go crazy without you. ...
Rainin' down rain, pourin' down pain
without you.

I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you
Every thunder cloud that came was one more I might not get through
On the darkest day there's always light and now I see it too
But I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you

One more night, one more night
I've been trying ooh so long to let you know
Let you know how I feel
And if I stumble if I fall, just help me back
So I can make you see ...
Like a river to the sea
I will always be with you
And if you sail away
I will follow you
Give me one more night

I swear to you - I will always be there for you - there's nothin' I won't do

With all of my heart, I know I could love you
But, with all of my soul, I'm driftin away
With all of my mind, I know you could save me from myself
And anything else,
With all of my strength, I wanna reach out for you
With every breath, I call out your name
With every step, I just wanna turn around and say
Baby make it okay

I'll try every trick in the book
With every step that you take, everywhere that you look
Just look and you'll find
I'll try to get to your soul, I'll try to get to your mind ...
I'm gonna make you mine
I know I'll never give up, I'm at the end of my rope

Ev’rybody might be just one big soul
Well it looks that-a way to me
Everywhere that you look in the day or night
That’s where I’ gonna be, ma
That’s where I’m gonna be

Wherever little children are hungry and cry
Wherever people ain’t free
Wherever men are fightin’ for their rights,
Thats where I’m gonna be, ma
That’s where I’m gonna be

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
While God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

The things we take for granted
In this life we lead are tragic
We should be ashamed
He left his home and family
And cast his fate across the sea
Would we do the same
Well I sure bet he’s got some stories he could tell
Ain’t that many ever made it back from hell

POW 369
I should salute you from this heart of mine
And thank you for placing your life on the line
For me, I’m free
I pray that the rest of your journey is a peaceful one
And may you take your own sweet time
Mr. POW 369

Let me thank you one more time
Mr. POW 369

That link includes some verses I'd never heard. But much more fascinating is that I'd known the line as "As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free."

What a profound difference to learn that that line was later changed to
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free.

[Corrected my typo -- sorry to have generated that confusion, Angel.]

Wordnerd, not quite sure that is what you meant to say. roll eyes

But from the site you gave, I found this:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free]

Does that clarify things any?

She walks the mile makes you smile all the while being true
Don't take for granted the passions that she has for you
You will lose if you chose to refuse to put her first
She will if she can find a man who knows her worth

Oh
Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her
And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her
And a real woman knows a real man always comes first
And a real man just can't deny a woman's worth

This is a Latalat Tasimi Wrawl but I apologize for the connection being so slender. One somewhat astounding aspect of these lyrics is that while they came from a fairly unknown John Prine piece, the tune later became the theme song to the TV show "The Texas Wheelers" back in (I think)the 70's.

She walks the mile, makes you smile...

When I woke up this mornin', things were lookin' bad.
Seems like total silence was the only friend I had.
A bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down - and won.
An' it was twelve o'clock 'fore I realized I was havin' no fun.
Ah, but fortunately I have the key to escape reality.

(Chorus:)
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile.
It don't cost very much but it lasts a long while.
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone.
No, I'm just tryin' to have me some fun.

Illegal Smile, by John Prine

When I woke up this mornin'
Like me the sun was high
Well I started walkin' the long way home
Just to think of an alibi
Well I couldn't think of a doggone thing
That hadn't already been said
So I guess I better just play it by ear
For I'm already dead

But today I'll face the big fight but
I really had a ball last night
