A.
I flew on United with Sammy
To humid and sizzling Miami.
Now Sammy, my feline,
Jumped - making a beeline
All over the plane; I thought "damn me!"

On a cold winter night in Miami
As I strolled down the street with my Tammy
She said we should part
And it broke my heart
I suddenly felt all cold and clammy

She said on that dark night in Miami
She was seeing my former friend, Sammy
Then the phrase that offends
"We can still be friends"
She gave me the old double whammy

C.
In a bar in east Miami
I sat down in a seat next to Sammy
The music is hot
But Sammy is not
Think I’d rather be home with my mammy!

Not so easy is rhyming "Miami."
There's bat-swinging Sosa (that's Sammy)
And Snead, the golf pro
Played a few years ago -
We've been given a Sam double-whammy!

And folks raised in old Alabammy
Know the savory taste of umami
It won't your broth thicken
And tastes more like chicken
But might make you feel cold and clammy.

Bought a ticket to fly to Miami
Packing only my lightest pajamy
Upon landing - how queer!
There's a herd of reindeer
And some people who call themselves Sami!

F.
One hot humid night in Miami
I want to a play with my Tammy
I liked the show
Except for a schmoe
Whose acting was a little too hammy

I'll go with D. I like the first one, which I find clever, but not the second one. Second best is E, which gave me a chuckle - but "pajamy?" Awkward. The rest either didn't scan for me or didn't make me laugh.

Hab, I bet you wish you were in Florida about now!

Indeed. As I said four weeks ago. Yesterday’s Nor’Easter didn’t help any.

Hmmm, I don't. As a dear friend on AWAD used to say to me, "I don't want to encourage that behavior." I prefer California.

I don't think I should vote because I had received all the entries as I was going to post them for Hab if he was too busy (or sick of always being the host!). However, when the game is finished and a winner announced, I'll let you know my choice.

To me, all the limericks are clever and funny - maybe not perfect, but then we don't have the advantage of a dozen workshoppers reviewing them. Wink

I like the pajamy rhyme.

I once met a nice fellow named Sammy
At a dive in the depths of Miami.
He neglected to say
He's inclined to be gay,
Which I learned when he offered to ram me.

I like the first half of D.

Hab, are you still above water? Do you have electricity? Well, does your house have it coming out of the right places, that is?

Snow today, dig out tomorrow. It's New England. No big deal.

It's just started in earnest. Ask me again in 24 hours. Maybe I'll even get to the Calling Hours for one of my late long term co-workers, tomorrow (5-8 PM). FTSTTR, tonight's bridge game has been (prudently) cancelled.

I'd post the results, but I think at least one submitter hasn't cast a vote yet...and Kalleh, I think we're each sufficiently independent so as not to be swayed by your choice -- go ahead! Unless you'd really rather not.

Okay. I am going for D then. Love Alabammy and Miami!

Our boards on the east coast were closed today too - another storm. At least it's March so it melts soon and warms up.

I like A best.

Found my 2008 entry. Lines 1,3,&4 don't scan, & I have no idea what it's supposed to mean. Oh well I was a newbie then.

In New York everyone has a gram’my
Who shares the broad beach in Miami
With diversity teachers
Like CSI and sea creatures,
Michiganders, and crooks on the lam-my.

THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE !

-- Geoff liked Part 1 but not Part 2
-- Proof liked D1 also
-- Kalleh casts a non-binding vote for this but feels that knowing who wrote what should have disqualified her.

So in poll form it's
A. 2
B. 0
C. 0
D. 1/2 + 1/2 + 1(recused)
E. 2
F- 0

Making a tie between A and E, with D a close runner-up. "Miami" turned out to be quite limiting, despite my initial impression. Not much change in rhymes from ten years ago, after all.

Kalleh, Geoff, youse guys gits to fight over who picks the next destination.

I concede to the sassy cat, or cat sass.

BTW, do y'all know who the Sami are?

Yep, Sammy from Green Eggs and Ham. And I liked that book.

Well, I'd better get it while the gettin's good - because I never win. Wink

Thanks, Geoff! Next time it's your turn.
