Bumwhush is the next word. As usual, please PM your daffynition to me. No looking it up! Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Cue the usual sniggering amongst the British contingent whenever the word "bum" is mentioned. Anyone remember Randy Bumgardner?

Is a bumgardner in charge of the dingleberries?

Five daffynitions have been received received so far, from four people. Several regulars are still missing, though. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I know we're playing speed-up lately but don't you you think less than thirty six hours is pushing it a bit? "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

How's bumwhush doing? I only ask because I've run across a word I hadn't heard before which I think would make a good game and, if nobody minds, I'll post it when the current game has finished. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

Unsurprisingly many of the the daffynitions for bumwhush tended to have a common theme: 1. The dirt that collects around a bathtub, forming the notorious "ring around the bath". 2. the noise made while using a bidet 3. Irish slang for a bidet 4. One of several common nicknames for the chukar pheasant, a Eurasian upland game bird. 5. ruin, obscurity, annihilation 6. A card game where the loser gets the King of Clubs and is "bumwhushed." 7. Welsh rendering of "will o'the wisp". 8. Flatulence 9. blurred or indistinct printing caused by ink spreading between the fibres of low quality paper Guess away! Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I'll guess that the word has nothing to do with the British slang, "bum," which narrows the choices. I like #s 5, 7, and 9, and shall guess 5. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Since Geoff chose 5, it's obviously wrong, so I'll go with 8

I'll go for number 9. Let's hope it's not a bum steer

I heard that one a bit differently. It was, "what's the difference between a place where alcohol is served and an elephant's fart? One is a bar room; the other is a barrrrooooom!" It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Former felon mayor Buddy "Prince of the City" Cianci was doing a remote for the "Today" show from the zoo's elephant house. Shortly before he went on the air, he left his seat for some reason and a light fell right where he had been sitting. He laughed and said he hoped this wasn't a sign of things to come. They started his interview and just as he began his commnents, Alice the elphant gave this thunderous fart tht reverberated through the building. I always wondered why it never made YouTube (which didn't exist then) but must be on tape somewhere.

Last call for guesses ... I'll post the answer tomorrow. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

5, please, though 9 was intriguing too.

Results: 1. The dirt that collects around a bathtub, forming the notorious "ring around the bath". Guy's suggestion, chosen by nobody. 2. the noise made while using a bidet From Proofreader. Again, no-one was fooled. 3. Irish slang for a bidet Bethree's effort; unsuccessful in fooling anyone. 4. One of several common nicknames for the chukar pheasant, a Eurasian upland game bird. Bethree's second try; again unsuccessful. 5. ruin, obscurity, annihilation The real thing. Guessed by Geoff, Bob and Kalleh. See WWFTD: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wwftd/message/1553 6. A card game where the loser gets the King of Clubs and is "bumwhushed." Kalleh's flight of fancy, which never took off. 7. Welsh rendering of "will o'the wisp". Geoff thought of this but no-one alse thought much of it. 8. Flatulence Geoff's second eructation, which caught Proof downwind. 9. blurred or indistinct printing caused by ink spreading between the fibres of low quality paper Bob thought this one up and conned Guy and Richard. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

FLushed with success at guessing the correct answer (and it was a guess based on nothing more than choosing something with no obvious connection to "bum") AND fooling two people (by creating a definition with no connection to "bum") I shall now post the word I ran across the other day. See the new thread I'm about to start. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.
