When a lawyer is cast out from the profession, he's disbarred.
When a clergyman is cast out from the profession, he's defrocked.

But surely we can do better, for all sorts of of occupations? Puns required, of course.

The lawyer was debriefed.
The podiatrist was defeated.
When the Handsome Prince kissed Sleeping Beauty, she was disenchanted.

So Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's would be disenfranchised?

And a priest would disrobe? But they've been doing that for years, evidently. Hmm.

When the misbehaving student's mark was lowered because of his shameful behavior, he was degraded.

When the Prophet was worshipped as a god because at last there was no longer any uncertainty or alternative, he was deified. (Durn. "Apotheosis" would have been a nice anagram, and here I've gone and squandered it.)

These work best when both potential meanings could be appropriate!

When the HVAC man removed the airways that hadn't been ordered, the customer was given a deduction.

(Didn't we have a "dis-" thread along these lines not too long ago?!)

Deja vu: I see the Berlin native has withdrawn his assent all over again...

In the old days of ships of mast and sail, an experienced sailor was said to 'know the ropes'. But when his mind began to lapse and his knowledge slip away, he was very dangerous to the entire crew.

They would quietly retire him from his task, and he would then be de rigueur.

Hello there, Rose from the City of Roses!

Haberdasher notes, "Well, if you really want your job back, you're going to have to show your determination." Or in the case of a milliner, you'd want to be recapitulated and recaptured.

Arnie muses, "When a baseball player is fired is he demitted?" It depends on the player. When the Yankees lost one great slugger they were ruthless; when they lost another decades later they were dismantled. (Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, for the benefit of non-USns.)
