Seymour, Indiana, is called "The crossroads of America" because two major railroads cross there. That's a damned good reason NOT to live there, but a good reason to have a factory there. See what naughty stuff you can do in Seymour. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Would the locals call it see-moor or see-more? Does it matter or should we just use the pronunciation we give the name in our own accent?

Or is it SAY-mir? | ||

You illustrate the problem perfectly because in most British accents see-moor and see-more would be pronounced identically. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

As it's pronounced in this song from "Little Shop of Horrors." The original movie by that title had Jack Nicholson in his first demented character role.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DD7VIKZnGA It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Got yours Kalleh. So far the only one. B35, I recommend watching both the original Roger Corman directed "The Little Shop..," a black and white film which is a spoof of the old "Dragnet" TV series, then watching the much later Frank Oz directed version. Amazingly different! It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Some regulars have not submitted, so I'm holding off until I have at least one from the missing regulars. How about Tom? Is he still here? It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti

Tom hasn't been here in awhile. I just checked and the last time he was here was in September.

Since I can't make sense of the )(**&&!$# poll, I'm posting these the ordinary way: 1 Heard tell of a Seymour from Seymour Whose landlady wanted to be more To Seymour than chopped liver, So she'd strip, all aquiver-- But to see more made Seymour want to flee more! 2 There once was a fellow of Seymour Who wanted his manhood to be more He sent for some potions Some ointments and lotions. Effective? They just made him pee more. 3 I thought to the trip there would be more And she'd pay attention to me more, But a week in her town Left me with a frown, And wanting to see less of Seymour! 4 I thought to the trip there would be more And she'd pay attention to me more, But a week in her town Left me with a frown, And wanting to see less of Seymour! 5 My 80-old cousin from Seymour With Alzheimer's just couldn't be more Confused and befuddled, Cous Seymour's all muddled, "I'm Seymour from Seymour!" And he roar! 6 When I moved to Chicago from Seymour, I thought, "Which local team should I be for? The Cubs and the Sox Are such miserable flops. You despise them? I couldn't agree more." 7 There once was a fellow from Seymour, A Hoosier, who just couldn't be more Sexy and handsome; I'd pay a big ransom To be with my darling, Mi Amour. 8 There's a window we peek in in Seymour In the hope a young lady will free more Of the goods God endowed And which pleases the crowd Of admirers, climbing her tree more. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti
