1. An infection affecting fingernails
arnie's daffynition.

2. Osteoarthritis of the toes, causing the joints to enlarge and limiting flexion and extension.
Kalleh's daffynition.

3. Contraction of phallus and necrosis, penile morbidity, often resulting from prolonged priapism.
I tossed this in just to prove to Wordmatic that I AM nasty!

4. Botany: A blight-like disease affecting roses.
Bob Hale tried to pedal putrified petals.

5. Typical male pattern baldness.
As most of you knew, this is the true definition!

6. Anthropological term for the gradual dying out of phallo-centered religion in ancient Egypt due to the rise of Christianity.
Bethree was in-SPIRED to submit this.

7. Impotent; without passion.
Wordmatic gave us this one.

8. The phallus-like spire on churches, often supporting a cross.
Jerry submitted this.

9. A genus of seabird.
Another from yours truly.

Hey, TSUWM, would you care to dig into your big bag of worthless words and submit one for this game?

Oh, gee, I am glad it wasn't just my misperception.

What a weird word to mean male pattern baldness, and to think I know so many men who have it!

Great word, Asa. I wonder how it relates to alopecia, which also means male pattern hair loss.

It was my understanding that alopecia was hair loss as a result of illness. Am I wrong? And is alopecia from Arabic? "Al" is the definite article.

Well, it can be both. Here is a definition from Onelook that looks fair to me:

"Loss of hair (especially on the head); in humans it can result from heredity or hormonal imbalance or certain diseases or drugs and treatments (chemotherapy for cancer)." So, it can just be a hereditary loss of hair (which normal baldness is) or it can be pathologic. It also can be loss of hair in other places on the body or in other animals. The distinction then must be that phalacrosis is much more specific.
