The challenge for the week is HYRAX. If it's too easy and you know it already from your years of solving Telegraph crossword puzzles and hobnobbing with Ximines and the like, exercise self-restraint, and make up a likely-sounding diversion anyway! Submitted answers will be displayed on Monday, June 7, barring unforeseen distractions. [Edit: Shame on me. That's "Telegraph," not "Telegram." There, I've changed it.]This message has been edited. EARLY PEP-TALK Very good. Twelve hours after posting the word, and two qualified candidates already. Keep those cards and letters coming, Sports Fans!

Hab, I sent my correct definition by email... I can't private post. Where are the violins? HYDRAX would be a good word for 6-Letters to Thread..

HYDRAX would be a good word for 6-Letters to Thread. It would be. Too bad they don't make them any more. Not since Sunshine got bought out by Keebler, those naughty little elves. Nothin' left but Oreos now. Didn't get your email yet but it's only 25 minutes since you sent it, so it may be still circling in Tumbolia somewhere...I'll let you know when it arrives.

The word is HYRAX... I don't want to confuse anybody by adding that "d"... and remembering Hydrox cookies!

Yes, KHC, I remember those cookies! Submitted answers will be displayed on Monday, June 7, barring unforeseen distractions Hab, you remind me of my father-in-law. His answering machine used to say something to this effect: "If I don't get back to you within 48 hours, please call again as my answering machine may have failed me." He always covered all the bases! When he died, Shu and I kept that recording as a precious reminder of him.

HYRAX, the Progress Report OK, call it another pep talk if you like. At the half-way mark I have five definitions, plus the "real" one, plus a couple of candidates I made up myself. If there are enough more submissions I won't have to use my own fillers...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Okay, from my figures, here are the current totals. Since Tinman had 3 answers, I just counted all answers as we generally would, meaning that a lot of points were gained with sprag. If you wish to contest the points, feel free...but then you need to take this task over! arnie - 34 Kalleh - 24 Asa - 24 (he doesn't get a point for fooling himself!) CJ - 21.5 Bob - 16 KHC - 15.5 (she got 2 points for submitting the correct definition, even though she didn't guess it; however, she got no points of fooling anyone since it was the correct definition.) Jerry - 13 Shu - 6 WinterBranch - 4 Wordnerd - 3 jheem - 3 Tinman - 3 Hab - 3 Whew! I have no time left for recording all the OEDLIF words....there's always tomorrow. This message has been edited.
