This may not be new but it is new to us. I knew something was brewing when The Pedant had that far-away look in his eyes. How to ruin a book, story, film, (anything) in one line. Here are some examples. "Take the blasted ring then" said Frodo. (Lord of The Rings) "I gave that old wardrobe away" (Narnia Chronicles) For Moby Dick: "What with only having one leg, I think I'll stay ashore now' said Ahab. "Let's not stay tonight, why don't we push on to Edinburgh?' (Macbeth.) There's more.... Any ideas? Tadpole. Tadpole

"Chielamangus" is, I believe, something written by someone whose surname is Purdy. This is my first exposure to the word "Chielamangus." It inspires attempts at punning. At first I toyed with "mongoose," of which there are many where I live. Googlizing chielamongus brought up Purdy. which sounds like pretty in some dialects, (perhaps not in Avon or Cornwall or Devon) so that's what I posted. "No, you're fine, no mumps" said the doctor. (Winter Holiday - one of the Swallows and Amazons series) "People of Neptune, your attention please" boomed Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. (Hitch-hiker - Winterbranch will get this even if no-one else does!) Ros

'I think I'll stay in and finish the whitewashing', said Mole. 'Spotted fur is so last year' remarked Cruella. My name is from Burns.. 'There's a chiel amang us takin' notes'. But I have a distinct feeling it has been used before. I can't remember who, but I'm not really very original, and I don't think I thought of it myself!
