I think I might know what this one is, so I'd better sit it out.

No, please don't sit it out entirely! Make up a good decoy and see how many of us you can snare. Sit out the voting if you insist, but even that's not required - no shame in being smart or even "just" having an extensive vocabulary!

If you had to sit out because you know a word we'd never let arnie play. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

Good Morning. I have many daffynitions now, and will post them tomorrow morning. As a side note, but nonetheless important, I was not aware that nombril is French for navel (as in belly button). There is an English definition for it that has no relationship to the French, so please ignore the French for the purposes of this game. Jo (who flunked French in college)

Here are the definitions for nombril: 1. (n) A sign placed outside a building, bearing the name of the occupant or business 2. The center point on the bottom half of an escutcheon bearing a family or personal device 3. A farm cart used for carrying dung 4. a little wispy thread of color that spirals off the main body in a graphic representation of the Mandelbrot Group (see http://planet.nana.co.il/temichev/man2.html for an illustration; many nombrils are visible) 5. Archaic adjective - the opposite of shady, a word describing land where there is no shade or shadow. 6. A genus of ground-creeping tropical vine 7. a Jamaican fruit that turns bright orange at maturity and is juicy and sweet tasting. The name is in honor of Captain William Nombril, who brought the fruit from West Africa to Kew in Jamaica in 1793. 8. The name given to the hair follicles on the fingers of a human hand 9. The omphalos 10. A decorative knob or swirl carved on the keel of a Viking age longboat.

I'll go for 9. | |||

What I'm looking for is the opposite of number five, but I don't see it anywhere so I'll to have to turn 5 upside down and pick number 2 instead.

I vote for 2, too | |||

I'll pick 10. Tinman | |||

I too, go for 2. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

arnie's gone for 2. Looks like I'm finally going to get one right ! "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.

It appears the votes are in. And because of personal business potentially calling me from the computer, I will post now rather than later. The correct answer is #2, which was discerned by Bob Hale, Hab, Asa, KHC, and of course Arnie.
