MorganWord-square
A friend sent me one of those puzzles where you find the words hidden in a letter-square, running horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The twist on this one is that the is no a, e, i, o, or u in the square.
He says there are at least 40 words of 3 letters or more, and and I bet this group can find more that those 40! Make me proud, ladies and gents! You can copy this grid, and italicize each new word you, and we can keep a running alphabetical list to avoid duplicates.
P.S.
dictionary.com will be the judge of "what is a word".

haberdasheralso - so we allow wholly-contained subsets?
dryly holds dry
tryst holds try
crypts holds crypt and cry
You get the point. In wordsearchland I don't think complete overlaps are viewed with approval, but for our count
I don't see why they shouldn't be included.

haberdasherIt comes from running down in your head - what words have no vowels but Y? So with that thought in mind - look for "cyst," "spry(ly)," etc. And just in case the writer of that puzzle was being Puckish, look for "cwm" too.
September 11, 2003, 14:34
wordnerdYou've got me looking for LY combos to add to other words. Here's
SPRYLY, containing

If I put too much thyme in my bouillabaisse, is it
THYMY ? Actually, Dictionary.com says
yes. Still, it sounds rather forced.
But I'm not sure we can accept d.c uncritically. It has a listing for
SYLK as "acronym for 'symbolic link'" but I don't think that makes it a valid entry here.

Hic et ubiqueHab, agreed that acronyms don't count.
How can we have missed
GYM running left-to-right, like an ordinary word, in the top row?
Also, there's a second
STY, starting with the same S as the STY we've already found (5th row, 2nd-to-last column) but running up rather than running southwest.
