This post is unavoidably political (sorry, folks), but I've eliminated some extreme cases. Nearly 200 pitched in. The results are hilarious. Here's a sampling (for more see The Guardian, continued here). I don't get the last one. Can someone explain. abbapeasement a Swedish diplomatic process whereby conflicting parties participate in a "dance-off" to resolve their differences adulteration the discovery of the inner adult. bellbottom 1. the precise moment when a person, place or thing demonstrates negative utility. 2 to make obsolete or outlive one's usefulness. blasphuck to screw in a consecrated place. canineadate a dog who runs for elected office. dark natter an analogue of "dark matter" which astrophysicists speculate may constitute as much as 90% of the universe, dark natter is empty but continuous chatter of an ominous sort, whether in direct discourse, by way of the electronic media, or in print. fauxkward combination of "faux" and "awkward". Falsely awkward. Qualities such as false humility, fake shyness, and pseudo-goofballness can all be termed subclasses of fauxkwardness. jobless oblige the responsibility of the out-of-work to update and fabricate their résumés. outFox 1 to be more dishonest and deceitful than one's rivals. 2 to lean more heavily to the right. quipnunc a person who responds to current events, especially tragic ones, with quickly devised, sometimes callous jokes. ralphnadir 1. the lowest point in any process, whereby the urgent need to alter that process becomes manifest. 2 the act of creating such a low point while simultaneously undoing one's reputation. skinicism the practice of assuming the best about an individual based on the colour of his or her skin. umbridge the commonly held indignation that brings together two or more people. yidg one's romantic pair; older than a girl/boyfriend, less businesslike than a partner, more fun than a spouse, less gooey than a lover. | ||
