Guajira is our mystery word. Send your PMs to me with daffynitions! You new folks, we play this by submitting plausible, but fake, "daffynitions" by PM (private message) then when the fakes plus the real one are posted, selecting which one is correct.

Isn't that the Japanese name for Godzilla?

That's not my proper daffynition by the way which I'll post just as soon as I think of it.

No, no, it's the former Mayor of New York City. They named the airport after him.

My 'nition is on the way.

Here are the daffynitions, and the real one:

1: The bed of a dried-up lake or river

2: A spotted snake, found in Central America, Mexico and the southwestern part of the United States, that is large, but harmless.

3: a small, very hot pepper grown only near the equator

4: Cuban term of endearment, meaning "beloved brown-skinned girl"

5: A dessert consisting of mixed exotic fruits in a light lemon pastry.

6: A microbial lifeform found in the coastal and inland waters of equatorial east Africa. Unlike guardia, which causes severe digestive disorders, guajira is found to be beneficial in the treatment of skin conditions common to the area. Attempts are being made to synthesize guajira for treatment of acne, scabies, and several other skin tissue disorders.

7: A Cuban dance, or, literally, a peasant woman.

8: A large, but relatively non-toxic, odiferous black scorpion. Often confused with the vinegaroon, but with a pronounced stinger.

OK, boys and girls, what is it?

#7 in honor of my natal day. Of course, my choice of #7 has nothing to with today being my birthday, but it is a sneaky way to elicit congratulations anyway. Smile

I'm not sure I see a huge difference between #7 and #4 and that makes me suspect both of 'em, but I'll vote for #7 anyway.

Oh, and just in case your birthday happens to be anywhere around now, Happy Birthday, Fellow Pisces!

I like the sounds of #7.

Happy Birthday Jo!

Should we be sending the same good wishes to Hab? Habers, your bday isn't listed!

Arnie's daffynition, which left Tinman all wet. Wink

2: A spotted snake, found in Central America, Mexico and the southwestern part of the United States, that is large, but harmless.

Kellah's.

3: a small, very hot pepper grown only near the equator, which fooled Kalleh, whom I may not make fun of - but it's sooooooo tempting! Big Grin

4: Cuban term of endearment, meaning "beloved brown-skinned girl"

Haberdasher's.

5: A dessert consisting of mixed exotic fruits in a light lemon pastry.

Bob Hale's.

6: A microbial lifeform found in the coastal and inland waters of equatorial east Africa. Jo didn't fool anyone, but sure gave me a case of the creeps with this one!

7: A Cuban dance, or, literally, a peasant woman.

As most of you know, the real one.

8: A large, but relatively non-toxic, odiferous black scorpion. Often confused with the vinegaroon, but with a pronounced stinger.

One I threw in just to add to the mix.

OK, anyone else have a word - that we DON'T know!?!?!?

Why yes, I just happen to have one handy here. Look for it on the forums list as a new bluffing game.

My problem is that I think to much. The Cuban dance sounded perfect for the word, but then I thought it was just too easy so it couldn't be that. Geez!

A final note - see http://www.esflamenco.com/palos/enguajira.html

"From guajiro, white Cuban farmer"...

So it's really a white-skinned girl, not a brown-skinned girl as in Number 4.

Ah well. It was pretty close, but nobody bit.

CW, the trouble with fooling Kalleh is that everyone does it. Now...were you to fool Arnie... Big Grin!
