In order to be included in Wikipedia, you must meet their "notability guidelines." Apparently people try to promote themselves by writing entries in Wikipedia, which promptly get deleted by their 1,000 administrators. Here is the Wikipedia deletion log, which is interesting to peruse.
It just goes to show that you can start off totally unlike the competition, but you're more than likely to become like them with age and success, like radical hippies that become stock brokers and CPAs. In the future, everybody and everything should just have an entry. Instead of having human editors exclude things from an encyclopedia, they should invest in better search, filtering, and intelligent agent technology.
