Chaz, good work But why esp Rich and k's friends Is it that lovers of the brew most appreciate wordplay
|
Member |
No. It's the reverse. We are lovers of wordplay that appreciate proper beer (nothing from any one of the mega-brewers such as Dudweiser, Swiller or Curse, then). Richard English

Dale, I should have included you as you also post over on Realbeer.com. And as Richard says - Drink proper beer. Not the swill that is passed off as such.

By the way, who's going to be at the GBBF (01-06 August at Earl's Court)? I am hoping to make it on Friday 04 August. For those that don't know about it. GBBF is the world's best beer festival with around 500 different cask-conditioned beers and a similar number of specialist bottled beers (and not a drop from Dudweiser or its clones). Although I'd love to, I'm afraid I won't make it this year. I have impending surgery and I'm certain that my doc would not clear me for the trip. I'm interested to see how it works out at the new diggs. Earls Court is a larger venue I've been told. Once again, I'm envious of Richard. Drink a few for us.

Sorry to learn that you won't be around. But surely I shall try a few for you. Richard English

I'll try to make it on the Friday, Richard. Perhaps we can make firmer arrangements by PM. Hey, Cat! Since Bob has said he can't make it this year, fancy filling in for him? Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Chaz, we do appreciate your 6 posts here. How's about a few more, from time to time? That was a great list. Since Shu and I are going to France in October, I loved #24..."If you jump off a Paris bridge, you are in Seine." Sorry about your surgery, Chaz, and I hope you have good nurses! Unless I change jobs, I will never be able to come to the GBBF because it is always at the same time as our annual meeting. What a bummer!

I've heard of worse reasons for changing a job :-) Richard English

In the absence of other arrangements, I shall be at the Young's brewery bar soon after noon (the doors open at noon). Young's bar is usually one of the first you see as you come in, but I don't know whether that'll be the same in Earl's Court as it was in Olympia. Richard English

OK, Richard. I'll see you there. The stand may have changed its name to Wells & Young's, though. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

There are other CAMRA sponsored real ale festivals nearly every weekend in England. I know you would enjoy attending one even if it is not the GBBF.

In the summer there are several each weekend, plus private ones at pubs and rallies. Richard English

Rich: As an old fart on fixed income, sorry I can't make it. However, have a good time and when you find a winner, remember it for me

Just to confirm, I've arranged to take Friday 4 August off from work. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I'll really like to whizz down for a few but as it is I'm taking the weekend of the 28th-30th off for a hot rod do at the Shuttleworth Collection (that's the one I've mentioned to you before Asa, the newest aircraft there is a Spitfire!) and being self-employed I can't take two weekends off in a row- heavy sigh!!!

Richard, is there anything during that time we'll be in England in October?
|

Sorry, but I cannot resist. Isn't that what most people end up doing at beer fests? Now all you guys who are still allowed to drink, please tip one for me. Young's would be nice. Or Old Peculier if you can find it.

I am very impressed; few people get that spelling correct. OP is readily available in London, although I find it too heavy for session boozing. Richard English

There are several CAMRA festivals but none especially near. I'll keep my eyes open and see what else there is. Bob might know of a local one. Richard English

When will you be there in October?

Chaz, See the Wordcraft Convention thread in the Community section. If you can make it, we'd love to meet you; I'm sure that even if there's no CAMRA festival nearby we'll manage to find a decent pub! Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. I have already suggested Ma Pardoes and the Crooked House. Richard English

Thanks for that. I was last over in March. (Had several pints with Richard.) I had intended to come for GBBF again but I've had some health problems that dis-allow it this time. I'll look into those dates.

I went to the Jerusalem Tavern, in Clerkenwell, last night. The only St Peter's house in London and I tried their mild, bitter and a special summer brew which contained ginger. All were excellent. Afterward we went to a Belgian bar in the same area are I reminded myself of just how good some Belgian beers are. The Forbidden Fruit (9.5%) was especially nice ;-) Richard English

Rich: Dudweiser and Swiller indeed. But you have to explain Curse Incidentally, if you haven't tried them, many of the U.S. microbrews are excellent Anyone wishing to discuss the brew, I am dalehileman@verizon.net

Rich's pun has very profound implications. Before the advent of the microbrewery, there were only a few brews in the Western Hemisphere that I could stomach, so to speak, and none of them was a product of the Big Three Forgive me for going OT, but can't resist a beer discussion. So I am dalehileman@verizon.com

This board has many members who like good beer - and we shall surely sample a few in October. And so far as the US micros are concerned - yes, I have drunk many of their brews and, a couple of years ago was lucky enough to go to Chicago and, with Kalleh and some others, go round the Goose Island brewery. Rich: My No. 2 Son Sky would like you. Recently he made a tour of European breweries on his vacation from the Navy and after his stint hopes to go back to school so he can become a brewmaster

Excellent choice of career. Even more so now that many English breweries are recruiting brewsters as well as brewers. Richard English

Rich, thank you But I had hoped Sky would find a nitche closer to Victorville

Since so many of the newer US brewers are copying the ideas of the traditional English brewing companies, I should not be at all surprised to see some US brewsters. Maybe there are some already. Richard English
