I love the This is True columns. Read this one. Amazing! Groupon doesn't know how to check who has been a US president? No wonder they've had business problems.
quote:
President Ben Franklin is Rolling in His Grave: The discount web site Groupon promoted a $10 discount for President’s Day, noting that Alexander Hamilton appears on the $10 bill and that he is “undeniably one of our greatest presidents and most widely recognized for establishing the country’s financial system.” Hamilton indeed founded America’s financial system, and was the first Secretary of the Treasury, but he never served as president. When people pointed this out to Groupon, they got responses from the company ranging from “We’ll just have to agree to disagree.” to “We respect everyone’s beliefs. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion.” Some observers thought the error was a deliberate publicity stunt by Groupon, which is known for turning down a $6 billion buyout offer from Google, going public, and then losing 80 percent of its market value when others copied its business model.

Hamilton was one of the truly great presidents, although he is less well-known than his movie star grandson, George.

Technically, illegal even then.

Why, Proof? Was a duel illegal then? I thought it was legal.

Dueling had been illegal in most states for years. In order to have one, participants had to find some area where the law was absent. Even then the winner could still be charged with murder, depending on his or her political power (or lack thereof).
