Nice link. I think this has always been true to an extent in politics, i.e., finding palatable words to deflect/ re-paint unpleasant truths in a less damning or even positive way. Can run the gamut from political correctness to political spin to propaganda. The enterprise has risen to new heights in Trump admin, plagued w/a combo of Trump's daily, reckless commentary & campaign/ intl intrigue & scandal from the get-go.

My favorite word-which-has-become-meaningless is "unprecedented." While it retains a shred of its original meaning (as Trump's torrent of reckless, politically-incorrect statements, exaggerations, deflections, open insults & outright lies is surely unmatched in campaign or presidential history), it has become a bland cover for all those parenthetical words, as well as hiding outrage over the unrelenting, daily breaking of the protocal & political norms which have traditionally shored up civil discourse & even separation of powers.

Definitely. I remember when we all thought George W. Bush was so awful with words. Had we only known what we'd be getting in 2016! Red Face
