AJ, BJ, CJ, etc.
Have you ever wondered why so many "blank-J" initials are used in nicknames? I have heard of people named:
AJ
BJ
CJ
DJ
EJ
JJ
KJ
LJ
MJ
OJ
PJ
RJ
SJ
TJ

Why is that? No other letter even comes close, does it?

It's just a way we have of keeping track of each other.

I think it must have something to do with "J" being a real name, "Jay." However, a friend said that many Irish Catholic men have a middle name of "Joseph" and that might be a reason.

John is also a very popular middle name - mine for example.

James is popular as well. My brother is another CJ; Colin James.

My daughter's an intern for E-Bay
And though her initials are CK,
My embarrassment grows
Since each fellow she knows
Has now taken to calling her "BJ."

For some strange reason, the Washington Post decided not to print that one.
