Last night, Brian Williams of NBC News mentioned that, now that we are officially in a "recession", but not in a "depression", there should be another word to describe our present condition. He recalled that the trials in Ireland were called "the troubles" but didn't think that would work for the present situation. One suggestion was "the unpleasantness." Does anyone have a better word or phrase to use?

How about 'the harvest' (as in you reap what you sow)?

Or perhaps 'the clothes' (as in what the emperor was wearing)?

I kind of like "The Vig" (as in paying the vig, i.e. the usurious consequences of borrowing from the mob)

I like B3-5's suggestion. The "vig" or vigorish seems most appropriate.
