One of the other teachers in my department is off sick with a chest infection. She texted to the department manager to let her know that she'd been to the doctor and wouldn't be coming in.

The department manager scrambled around for two days trying arrange a month's cover for her classes.

Unfortunately the text had said

Chest infection. Off sick 4 week.

Easy mistake to make I suppose but it wouldn't have happened if she'd either phoned or made the extra two keystrokes to type "for".

Wow. That's some mistake!

I am at a conference in Missouri, and they just had a report that their state university system is going to send out mass text messages now if there is an emergency, such as a shooting. A mistake like that could be fatal!
