BobHaleA senseless sign
No matter how I parse it I can't make this sign, seen outside a town pub, make sense.
No hoods
No ID
NO SERVICE
Do the want people with hoods AND/OR ID?
DO they not want people with hoods AND/OR ID?
????

zmježdI don't think they want anybody's custom.

<Asa Lovejoy>Sans service, it must be self-service. Not a bad thing in a pub.

<Proofreader>Maybe they don't want hoodlums ("hoods").

BobHaleI know what the "hoods" means. It means nobody wearing hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) widely seen here as the mark of thugs and hooligans.
What puzzles me is the idea of NOT being served if you don't wear one, which I'm sure is not the intent of the owners. (Mind you it's a pretty low dive, so maybe...)

<Proofreader>NO shsirt (If you're not wearing one)
No shoes (If you aren't wearing them)
No Service (We won't serve you)
No hoods (You can't wear them)
No ID (You must have some)
No Service (We reserve the right to avoid parallel construction)

wordmaticI think Proof's got it right. It just needs a semicolon after "hoods."

I love it.

KallehDoes anyone know if hooded sweatshirts are considered "thuggy" here? I wear them. I guess I'd be kicked out of that pretty low dive...
