Of late I've noticed that some retailers have "repurposed" formerly negative images for their business symbols. Macy's uses what used to be the Soviet red star, Target uses a target that you get arrested for shooting at, and WalMart uses what appears to be seagull poop. Many businesses now use the Greek (or Russian) "lambda" ("L" in the Roman alphabet) in place of "A." Even the PBS show, "Nova" has fallen prey to this idiocy. Any idea why?

I suspect they didn't see it that way.
