Tadpole wonders in another thread: I'd be really interested to know what are some US terms of endearment, aside, of course, from the all too prevalent 'sweetie'!?

I use several terms of endearment depending upon who I am talking to. Darlin', hon, and baby seem to come up most often. Others?

Are they 'intimate' expressions of endearment?

The English term 'love' is as likely to be heard from a stranger as it would be from one's nearest and dearest.

I like 'babycakes' having first come across it through Armistead Maupin. I have no idea what it means though!!
