Yes, excellent. I liked the dichotomy he describes between the descriptivists and the prescriptivists. The vowel shifts were pretty cool, too. I'd like to get his book, "Talk on the Wild Side." Samuel Johnson's 1747 discussion of "buxom" was interesting, too - it used to mean "obedient" based on ancient wives promising obedience. Quite a change, right? Thanks, Geoff for a good read. | |||
