Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me, I'm trying to come up with an alternative way of spelling 'fish'. It has to sound the same obviously.

Open to all suggestions. Thank you for your time in this matter.

The classic Shavian way of spelling fish is ghoti, with gh as in enough, o as in women, ti as in na[tion. One could "spell" it as it is pronounced in IPA (link) /'fɪʃ/. The thing to do would be to find all the ways of representing /f/, /ɪ/, and /ʃ/ in English orthography and recording all permutations. For /f/ there is {f}, {ph}, and {gh}. I leave the rest as an exercise for the reader. (NB, some permutations will be funnier than others.)

[Fixed misformatting.]

And of course there is always "phishing." Recently I was on Craig's List helping our son look for a car. We found a good deal (a red flag of course!), and I contacted the seller. Sure enough, when they asked to do this in the safest way, through eBay's safe harbor, I contacted eBay and found it was all a phishing fraud. I am glad I found out before it was too late!
