...reacted with a provincial, ~ding fatwa... –Kathleen Parker

I think it means to carp or criticize; but never heard the expression and I'm wondering whether it might be regional, or a neologism, or possibly a rightponder that hasn't quite reached us yet

Edited to add the D

Is that meant to be panty wading? Never heard of it, anyway.

Is it perhaps a variation on "getting one's panties in a twist"?

PS. The idea of "panty wading" seemed rather outré! Eek

Actually, we would normally talk about "getting one's knickers in a twist". Smile

Is that akin to a spontaneous wedgie? I've long thought that twisted knickers was preferable to twisted contents! Eek

My husband says "don't get your bowels in an uproar" which always makes me giggle . . . and then grimace.

Oh, I love that, CW!

My friend used to say, "Don't get your tits in a wringer!", which I found also found funny (though you need to watch your audience. Wink)

Ouch! Ouch ouch! That one is a little too graphic, perhaps. Makes me cringe.

Asa, I think you're correct, arnie's got it

Would it not be correct, then, to say that a ~ is a state of frustration or impatience
