Where do you get this stuff?

With or without the "rock" I have no idea what you are talking about.

Ah, in that case I'd say it sounds like a straightforward metaphor. A blowtorch is hot, their rock is hot hence "blowtorch rock". The writer might just as easily have said "atomic rock" or "blast furnace rock" or "flame thrower rock" or any other metaphorical description indicating that the band have a powerful and "scorching" sound.

All of the above examples get some ghits used in this metaphorical sense as do "scorched earth rock", "thermo nuclear rock" and "blazing rock".

Not really: only 41 distinct, of which many are for "Betty Blowtorch, rock & roll". Eliminate betty and you're down to 7 distinct (6 relevant).

Tnaksnks guys, points well taken. It would appear that a ~ isn't really a specific, recognized kind of rock

Igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic? Gotta be one of the three, unless it's just amorphous dirt.

On the other hand, given the namby-pamby nature of Toto's rock I'd say it's a peculiarly inapt metaphor. Smile
