What's an NGO? It's a common acronym, but all I think of is "Non-Gonococcal Outbreak." I doubt that's right. Anybody got an idea?

In the Uk it means non-governmental organization which is a bit of a misnomer as they are usually bodies set up by the government that are theoretically independent. We also have QUANGO which is quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisation
