If someone referred to the mid-2000s, when would you think that would be?

My first thought was some years either side of 2050 though I suppose it could be either side of 2500.
I'd go with 2050 though as we are used to thinking in centuries rather than millennia.

Probably what they mean, though, is somewhere around 2005.
