Can't seem to find an answer to this one. Does anyone else know the answer to this question? Thanks.

In my southern UK English accent I'd say it with a hard g.

Welcome, Brigid!

In American English it is a hard "g."

Personally, I say it as if the g is doubled; softer in the stressed syllable; harder in the unstressed, if this makes sense.

It does make sense, and now that you say it that way, that's also how I pronounce it.
