I saw a show tonight where the alleged murderer pleaded "not guilty, by reason of automatism." Now, I've heard of an automaton, but automatism is new to me. Dictionary.com defines it as "Mechanical, seemingly aimless behavior characteristic of various mental disorders." Does anyone know anything more about it?
Hmmmmm.... Sounds akin to brainwashing. Since the time of Watson and his behaviourist psychology, I suspect that most of the Western world, and definately the great majority of US residents are victims of automatism.
Asa, while I don't know much about automatism, in my reading about it, it seems to be more aimless than due to brainwashing. However, this is just a guess.
