An "Anglophile" is someone who is fond of things British. Likewise, a "Francophile" is fond of things French. Is there a word to describe someone with similar feelings towards the U. S. of A.?
Someone on the other site used "Americophile" but OneLook doesn't support it.
That's a good question. There doesn't seem to be a word for fear of Americans either. My brief internet researches (searching for "fear of America" + phobia or "Fear of Americans + phobia) came up with several suggestions but none of them were very convincing (Americanaphobia, Americaphobia even Gringophobia) and there were very few hits at all.

How's 'bout usophilia and usophobia? Maybe not. Then: merkinophilia and merkinophobia? How about: vespucciphilia and vespucciphobia? (Dog blast Vespucciland.)This message has been edited. Last edited by: zmježd,

Based on the bellicose nature of our short history, there OUGHT to be! The world seems to have a love/hate relationship with the USA, admiring greatly the principles on which it was founded, but then the politicians and religious nuts got into power annnnd... I'm also uncomfortable calling the USA "America." Canada and Mexico, Guatemala, Argentina, etc, are all "America."
