How many of you caught the program on the dialects of the USA on PBS? What do you think - are US of Americans becoming more, or less linguistically homogeneous? They presented arguments for both cases.

It was a lot of fun. I particularly enjoyed the story about the new vowel shift under way in the central northern part of the US. More here.

Yes, Asa, Shu and I caught (and say that without the new vowel shift!) the show, and in fact there is another discussion of it in Community.

The vowel shift idea is interesting, except I don't see it happening, at least in Chicago.
