It makes me wonder if Peggy Parish, author of Amelia Bedelia books knew this word. In this series of books for young, new readers, Amelia is a household maid who takes every phrase literally and invariably makes a mess of her duties. For instance, when she's told to dust the living room, she spreads dusting powder (talcum) around the room.

Anyone else find this a very close coincidence?
