Apparently there has been a big misconception that the Chinese word for "crisis" has components of "opportunity" and "danger." In fact, the catchy phrase "crisis = danger + opportunity" has become popular. This site does an excellent job of explaining why this is not true. The supposed "opportunity" part of "crisis" is: jī of wēijī, which, in fact, means something like "incipient moment; crucial point (when something begins or changes)." That is so different from "opportunity" which generally means "a favorable juncture of circumstances; a good chance for advancement or progress."

Have you heard of this myth about the Chinese word for "crisis?"
