The new Limerick Game word is Rome. I've always wanted to visit Rome and never have...so here's my chance!

Please PM me with your limericks.

Here we go! There are several without "Rome" in the A-rhyme. I didn't consider those because of our rules, but some of them are nice!

Jerry
A diminutive curmudgeon gnome
Was in Italy, seeking a home.
He searched in Torino
But little did he know.
He finally settled in Rome.

The Pope, on a tour out of Nome,
Decided he'd rather not roam.
He said, "This is wrong."
Then he warbled the song:
"Show Me The Way To Go Home."

The Pope resides mainly in Rome,
He was taking a tour out of Nome.
His Excellency's song
For the admiring throng:
"Show Me The Way To Go Home."

Electricians working in Rome
Drink their beer with a big head of foam.
They have a quick wit
And they don't care a bit
About Watt and Volt and Ohm.

A Roman whose home is in Rome
Has a house with a star-gazing dome.
Why in starlight it glows
The astronomer knows:
Its surface is gilded with chrome.

An Emperor once governed Rome
And played violin in his home
The name of this hero,
Was Emperor Nero
And this is the end of this pome.

Richard

"You should try to see Rome and die"
They told me. I promised I'd try.
I searched in fine manner
But found no Diana
Such roaming's for Roman's, not I.

"My mind's just a big empty tome"
Said Sue, "and I'll fill it in Rome".
But the filling she got
Was a quite different spot --
Now she's poorer and pregnant and home.

Bob

When Alice went wandering from home
She said, "Wonderland? No this is Rome!
And, well I declare
Though I've looked everywhere,
There's no trace of the raths who are mome."

The Christians, as in ancient Rome,
Thrown to Lions who at the mouth foam.
In the old Colosseum
The Emperors decree 'em
To die, with thumbs down, far from home.

Two robots were wedded in Rome
A marriage in steel and in chrome
The sparks later flew
Until both fuses blew.
They expired, with a sigh, "Take me ohm."

I missed your submissions, Proof, but perhaps next time.

Very nice, guys. There were some really clever ones. However, I am going to award Jerry with the prize because I loved getting the pope involved, as well as a great song. Here's Jerry's winner:

The Pope, on a tour out of Nome,
Combed his hair with an icicle comb.
The air was so frigid
The poor man was rigid,
Singing "Show me the way to go home."

I humbly accept the laurels and hereby decree that the next round's key word will be Cheyenne.

Only mine, so far as I could see. But I couldn't resist using the (misquoted) old saying "See Rome and die".

Cheyenne, eh? I once knew a girl called "Shy Anne" - but, after a few bevvies and a bit of homespun chat she became "Rawhide" Red Face

Sorry, I meant to get into the Rome game but right now I'm in the eleventh day of watching the cold bug and the flu virus wrestle for control of my body -- which at times made me feel like the conclusion would be in that great Coliseum in the Sky. I'll give Cheyenne a try in a day or so.

Twenty-four hours have passed since the current chapter of the Limerick Game started, and I have received no private messages with new submissions. Is there a problem with "Cheyenne" ??

I am patiently awaiting your submissions .....
