I think we were trying to permit a more extensive vocabulary and so never prohibited them outright (viz Sleeping Beauty, most recently). But in any case that was the reason additional (gratuitous) flag "One word" even though it was already only one word.

"...sufficiently assiduous INSPECTION of the text," as Hofstadter put it.

Or an APU CAMEL, for that matter. (Nothing says they have to be two four-letter words...)

Quicksilver

and

Cryptonomicon (This I must look up!)

all by Neal Stephenson

[Just for the record, I had gotten Oklahoma waaaaay up there. However, I didn't post it because I mistakenly thought we weren't doing proper names.]

Precisely. And, while Cryptonomicon was published first, Quicksilver and The Confusion are the first two-thirds of what Stephenson calls
the "Q-BOREAU GLORY-IT"- two seven-letter words, no hyphens

(And if you are going actually to _read_ Cryptonomicon after looking at Stephenson's site, then a)you're likely to enjoy it and b) you'll probably enjoy it even more if you read Robert Harris's Enigma first!)

I know the answer, but I'm not going to tell it here. I'm going to put it in the CONTINUATION THREAD, called "Jumblaya," which I tried to start because this one was taking too long to load!
