Maybe the reason I've gotten zero submissions is because I forgot to put "Bluffing Game word" in the subject line. I've now edited it to include that.

Now start sending!

I have yours, Geoff. Don't worry. I have 6 already. Very nice ones, indeed! Anyone else? Hey, Bob. How about yours?

Thanks, Bob. I should have enough now. I'll post them tomorrow, in case somebody else wants to send one.

Here they are: Shmoiger:

1) A garment worn by Jewish men on the High Holidays.

2) A large amount (of cash, goods,etc.)

3) A jerk who is really stupid

4) To wander aimlessly

5) A dishonest horse trader

6) A piffle

7) Someone who lives off the generosity of others; a freeloader.

8) A Yiddish word meaning a cheat - generally a student who cheats at examinations and tests.

Start guessing, folks!

I think we should hold Geoff to #4, actually Smile

Quite a few convincing-sounding ones there, but I'll go for #8.

Yes, I'll stay with #4 since a schmoiger wanders aimlessly, living off the generosity of others. Makes sense to me!

Okay then. Here we go! As usual, I lost and arnie won. Roll Eyes

1) A garment worn by Jewish men on the High Holidays. - My daffy and guessed by Richard

2) A large amount (of cash, goods, etc.) - Arnie's; no one guessed it (dare I say, "Ha! Ha!?) Wink

3) A jerk who is really stupid - The real thing; this is a Yiddish word. Guessed by Arnie the Great!

4) To wander aimlessly - Bob's; guessed by Geoff. I loved the idea of making it a verb!

5) A dishonest horse trader - Bob's; no one guessed it.

6) A piffle - Proof's; no one guessed it.

7) Someone who lives off the generosity of others; a freeloader. Guy's; guessed by Proof and Bob.

8) A Yiddish word meaning a cheat - generally a student who cheats at examinations and tests - Richard's; guessed by Guy. It does sound like a Yiddish word, doesn't it?

And now, Geoff, it's your turn!
[edited to give Richard credit for Guy selecting his daffynition.]

Umm, I did actually... you put me down for number 4 instead (probably because I mentioned Geoff's selection in my post). Not that it matters much since I was wrong anyway!

It was unmistakably a Yiddish word, and distinctly sounded like some sort of low-down reprehensible character. My definition, number 7 (a freeloader), was actually of the Yiddish word "schnorrer" (or "shnorrer"), although I didn't find this out until after I thought of it! Glad I managed to fool two people this time.

I realised that it was a Yiddish word, and I remember reading somewhere that words that start s(c)hm... are usually insults, meaning "jerk" or similar, of varying degrees of rudeness.

I really had to choose between 3) and 7) - luckily I guessed correctly!

I'm puzzled as to what happened to the two daffynitions I submitted? Truth to tell I thought a schmoiger was a freeloader, which of course qualifies him as a jerk. Razz

So I nearly fooled both Arnie and Geoff as well, then? Not bad going!

You didn't accidentally delete the PM after sending it did you? I've done that in the past and it disappears from the inbox of the person you sent it to as well.

While I did make one mistake (Sorry, Richard. Guy did choose yours, and I'll fix that), I didn't make two mistakes. Bob, you are correct about what happened; Geoff deleted his PM to me with the daffynitions in it. If you delete your PM after sending it, the person you send it to won't get it. Sorry about that, Geoff, but I don't collect daffynitions until I am ready to post them.
