My next destination is Hove. This south coast town is actually part of the better-known Brighton, although Hove residents generally consider themselves a cut above the hoi-polloi of Brighton.

Hove rhymes with "drove", not with "love".

'Hove' is surname of the [Danish] drummer in my son's band

You know I never actually thought of that. Red Face

You DIDN'T??? Well, it's not too late to submit one! I'll do one too, so others will not know which is yours - except that yours will be better.

They'll know the one is yours!
I already sent three and I don't want to split my vote further.
I may however post one here in the thread.

Oh, drat! Richard, I hereby withdraw my entry. Frown This is what I had submitted:

Posted March 12, 2012 06:07
'Twas brillig in the town of Hove,
When uffish crept a slithy tove.
He gimbled there beneath some thatch
And barbecued a Bandersnatch,
Then left its carcass on the stove.

Why did you do that Geoff?
It wouldn't have mattered that we knew it was yours and I'd've voted for it. (naturally!)
Put it back and I still might.
(even though it's iambic not anapestic)

Here's one from me.

When the Jabberwock no more would rove
he decided to settle in Hove
with the love of his life,
his young Bandersnatch wife,
and his mistress an old slithy tove.

I have now received several entries and, for the moment, will leave them all. I confess I didn't imagine for one moment that anyone - even Bob - would use the mythical Slithy Tove as a rhyme. I can think of at least a dozen perfect rhymes in UK English without resorting to words describing fictional characters.

That means you're not putting your boy part in Alice? Roll Eyes

Alice was a virgin. No one got near her with a slithy tove.

Seven limericks now - we are getting near to a votable level. But some of the "usual suspects" have yet to submit, so I'll hold on a while longer.

Thanks Richard - I have one forming in my head, but still a punchline short of completion.

I'll give it until after the weekend before I post the poll, just in case there are any late entries.

The votes seem now to be coming in. I will save mine for the tiebreak if this proves necessary.
