During the chat of Saturday, 17 March, I mentioned to Kalleh the book, On the Origin of Tepees: the evolution of ideas (and ourselves)
In it is the term, climax community. What is it? Send your fanciful daffynitions to me via PM.

It drifted off the top and I forgot about it. These things need a kick from time to time. I'll try a little CPR by sending you a definition too.

Geoff, you need a little attitude readjustment Wink (that's what a colleague used to call it). So what if there aren't a lot of answers. It's fine. Let's play the game.

OK, I've got two now, and will add one of my own. Now were can we get some others? Ask Shufitz for one, Kalleh, and type it for him! And Proofreader??? This one just begs for your submission!

I very often vote for wrong ones when I know the right answer, just because I like to reward creativity.

After all, it's only a game.

I guess we've got all we're going to, so here they are:

1. An ecosystem that has reached equilibrium.

2. A labour union originally formed in Coventry, UK, by employees of Coventry Climax Fire Pump, Ltd. Later extended to include Coventry-based Jaguar Cars, Ltd.

3. A women's group who gather for the female version of a circle jerk. Popularized by sex therapist Betty Dodson, "The Orgasm Doctor:" http://www.dodsonandross.com/b...ink-they-cant-orgasm

4. A retirement home for aging porn stars.

5. A community-acquired disease outbreak where there is a cluster of an illness that affects at least 50% of the inhabitants.

6. Those in theatre who are experts developing exciting scenes that end the movie/show.

7. The self-styled "Climax Community" is a Los Angeles based film society who watch and review only the final fifteen minutes of the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Their reviews have appeared in numerous publications as well as their own monthly magazine - The Last Reel.

8. Land that has been developed so as to extract maximum financial gain from it.

A poor showing, but that's all I've got. Three are mine, alas... Pick the real one.

Why not add Bob's. I didn't read them yet, and I bet they were posted late enough so that others haven't read them yet.

When I am posting people's daffys, inevitably I accidentally leave someone's off. Don't worry about it, Geoff. We all do it.

Here are the replies, and the real one:

1. An ecosystem that has reached equilibrium.

The real thing.

2. A labour union originally formed in Coventry, UK, by employees of Coventry Climax Fire Pump, Ltd. Later extended to include Coventry-based Jaguar Cars, Ltd.

My own submission. Although the union bit is fiction, Coventry Climax was a big name in British industry at one time, producing fork lifts, fire trucks, and automobile engines. https://www.google.com/search?...sAQ&biw=1440&bih=781

3. A women's group who gather for the female version of a circle jerk. Popularized by sex therapist Betty Dodson, "The Orgasm Doctor:" http://www.dodsonandross.com/b...ink-they-cant-orgasm

Tinman titillated us with this!

4. A retirement home for aging porn stars.

Kalleh, you'll have to visit Proofreader in this fanciful home!

5. A community-acquired disease outbreak where there is a cluster of an illness that affects at least 50% of the inhabitants.

This is Kalleh's disease outbreak caused by sharing dildos at Proofreader's retirement home where they were doing Betty Dodson's dildo exercises.
(Remember: Never share a didlo!)

6. Those in theatre who are experts developing exciting scenes that end the movie/show.

Another of Kalleh's.

7. The self-styled "Climax Community" is a Los Angeles based film society who watch and review only the final fifteen minutes of the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Their reviews have appeared in numerous publications as well as their own monthly magazine - The Last Reel.

Bob submitted this most plausible diffynition.

8. Land that has been developed so as to extract maximum financial gain from it.

My own. The real definition of what I've described is "efficiency," as though real estate developers can improve on Mother Nature.

Boy, Geoff you have a loud voice! I heard it all the way in China.

As soon as I discover an appropriate word be assured I shall join in. Anyone else can pitch in before me I don't mind.

And thank you, though as I voted for my own definition I don't think it should count as a win.

I don't understand. If Bob voted for his own definition, #7, and #1 was the correct definition, then how is Bob the winner? Did anybody vote for #1? Am I missing something?

To be honest we don't usually declare a winner in this game. whoever next sees a word they think would be fun just posts it. And, for the record, I voted for myself in the hope of convincing someone else to vote for me.

Great strategy, Bob!

Yeah, Bob's right. We don't post winners of this game. In the very beginning we did, though. Indeed, we had this complicated points system where we would give something like 1/2 point if someone guessed your daffynition, one point if you guessed the correct definition, and two points if you hosted the game and no one guessed the correct definition.

Given those rules, I guess I'd get 1/4 point since proof almost chose mine. Wink

Absolutely not. I merely chose that number as a bluff since that term was part of the docent training course I taught for several years at our local zoo. I no longer have to go there since they have put a fence around my house as a more contemporary zoo.

Geoff, I am sure you remember our old games with points. Now we have fun, and, while I am competitive at heart, I like this way so much better. Generally, as Bob said, the person who comes up with a good new word is the one who is up next, though sometimes the originator of the game elects someone. So, Geoff, you were perfectly fine doing that.

Proof, the above was why I said I could get 1/4 point. I was having fun! Geez. You took me so seriously!

Glad you started a new game, proof! Love the word/phrase, and I've already sent in a daffy.

I guess I was wrong about not having winners in this game. In looking back we do seem to cite a winner, though that person doesn't always step up to do the next word. I am sorry, Geoff. My mistake. You did start this game, and it, in itself, has been a winner. Thank you!

Nah...we all have our days. Heaven knows I do!

I also think it's hard sometimes to know the intent of posts, emails, etc. Often, nothing negative is meant, but the author may be terse because he/she is running off to do something, and yet the reader thinks he/she is irritated or angry.
