I'm posting this now with considerable regret - I'd rather put it into the competition but I'm sure the entries won't be ready to post until after next weekend, and by then it will have lost its punch... ;-)

L.A. and New England: two views
It gets harder and harder to choose.
There's a very good chance
One will voyage to France
Because somebody's going Toulouse.

Only one so far. You have nothing Toulouse by submitting one or three.

Great city! It just so happens I am reading a book ("We Were the Lucky Ones") where one of the characters is in Toulouse, and I fell in love with the city. Nice to rhyme, too.

Five, including a two-verse one so far.

I don't know if you mean mine or someone else's but if you do mean mine it isn't two verses, it's two separate limericks

This is probably the wrong forum to mention this, but since it is the only forum here I regularly contribute to, I will. I find it somewhat odd that the universal language of mathematics, is not universally abbreviated in predominantly English speaking countries. We Aussies (and the Brits I assume) abbreviate it to "maths", but in the US (and no doubt the Philippines and probably Canada), it's "math".

Got any more Geoff?

Regards Greg

Not yours, Bob. I understand yours as two - and thanks!

I still need one or two from a couple of regulars.

Greg, we in the USA do seem to lump all of mathematics into just the singular "math," but many of us recognize that as being the abbreviation for "mathematics." Thus it may not be as narrow as it seems at first look.

Bob and I talked about this the other day. The call it shorten "mathematics" to "maths" because of the "s" on the end. We don't. Seems the same to me as why Brits and Aussies spell it "colour" and "honour" as opposed to our "color" and "honor." Or some such.

I don't think so. "colour" and "honour" come from French;
mathematics" is from Greek. You can thank Webster for messing up the spelling of the first two. I doubt Webster had anything to do with maths/math.
