You Greek speakers and linguists (Likely the same people) know this word; the rest of you know it when you see it, but might not know its name.
Maybe we can have some fun with it!

Send your made-up definitions to me via PM.
If you're new to this game, do NOT look the word up! We're after your nuttiest imaginings of what it might mean - the real definition comes later.

Oh, apparently that 8 people is really some sort of a "bot" that's lurking around, according to z. I'm sure I have the technical aspect wrong, but you get the point!

Come on folks. Please take a guess or two!

Only four have sent daffynitions so far. I'm putting this round on ice indefinitely due to my impending move.

Four with the real one and another daffy from you are enough. Just post them, please? I have a great new bluffing game word that I want to post when this game is done.

BTW, keep us informed about your move!

Geoff sent the daffys to me, and here they are, along the the real deal. Neither Geoff nor I can guess now, so please get to it!

1) A device, based on the paraglider, which allows people to escape safely from high-rise fires.

2) A roundabout or carousel.

3) Of or pertaining to the prostate's outer wall.

4) Tomato fritters with mint, fried in olive oil and typically served with fava (split pea paste). Mainly a Cycladic Island dish.

5) A figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part.

6) A psychic event so extreme it falls outside usual paranormal activity.

7) A teller of tall tales.

8) Pertaining to the second coming of Christ.

PLEASE GUESS!!!!

I like 5 and I like 2. I'll try 2.

It has been so long I'd forgotten what my daffy was, and I didn't recognise it in the list. Anyway, I go for 5.

I'll guess 7, but I really think it's a beast of burden paralyzed from the hindquarters down.

I like 7 because I love tellers of tales. They need a cool word like this.

Great word, Geoff, especially for this board! I likely would not have gotten it right because I would have expected to have seen it here previously.

So...no one has commented? Well, I'd like to say, Geoff, that it is a great word! Is it used much, do you think?

I have an excellent word that I got from a recent G&S production, but maybe I should wait awhile to start another game?

Well I suspected it was 5 of course. Wink

And didn't I do well with my definition? I was hoping people might see "para" and "prose" in the word and be fooled.

Geoff, according to a recent IM, is in the midst of his move and not internet-connected until next week. So Kalleh probably should begin a new game.

Our newbie, John Hiller, sent it to me in a PM, but I am really hoping he'll post it. I've asked him to again. If he is too shy, I'll do it for him.

John, we're a friendly bunch. Pull up a chair and stay awhile!

I went to post it for John and after I read about the word again, I decided that he really needs to post it. It is quite specific, with no dictionary or even Google entries, and I wouldn't do it justice.
