I've never been a fan of the idea of generational differences because I see aspects of each generational stereotype in everyone. It is people who are different, in my opinion, and not the times. My generation got criticized for too much TV. This one for too much facebooking. I am sure the previous ones had their similar challenges.

Along these lines, I was thinking about Internet buying and how people think this is such a big change. Then I remembered the Sears and other catalogs. I remember, for example, my grandparents ordering a lot of their holiday gifts from the catalog. What's the difference?

lThe SEars catalog was the ancient equivelant of the internet.
You could buy what you wanted, keep up with latest fashion and inventions, and I know that being caught looking at the lingerie section was the same as being found visiting porn sites today.

Do you recall the lingerie section from the superb Swedish movie, "My Life as A Dog?"

Never saw it though I have been treated as such for most of my life.

There are still many popular catalogs, including Victoria Secret's (stop that panting!), Coach's, Nordstrom's, etc. The difference is instead of sending in for the items by snail mail, they give you the website and you order them that way. Not much of a difference, in my mind.
