Reading this story reminded me that as a child I once used the same word, which I had heard at school, at home, under the mistaken impression that it was the same as "twit". Got a good hiding for that off my Dad who was very anti-swearing. (I only ever heard him swear once - when we got up one morning after a night of heavy storms to find that every single pane of glass in his greenhouse had blown out and broken. In the circumstances I think that I can forgive him.) "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson. | ||
